We might look like a sleepy little railroad junction, but we have quite a few genealogical "lines" that run through our junction. Let me tell you a little bit about our "Junction." This web site contains information on the ancestors, descendants and other related families of George L. Porterfield and his wife Dorothy ("Dee") Mae Loose.

The information in this collection comes from over 52 years of research. You may find some conflicting information on some individuals if early notes were not corrected by my more recent research. Notable Ancestors

Samuel H. Porterfield

My great-great-great grandfather was key in starting my interest in genealogy. Finding a power of attorney from 1811 that confirmed his parents was a break-thru in my research of my Porterfield line.

Emil Graf

Emil Graf is the great grandfather of Dorothy Porterfield. He served in Company B, First Minnesota Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. That unit suffered great loses at the Battle of Gettysburg, but Emil missed that battle due to injuries that put him in a hospital in Philadelpha.

Theodore Loose a.k.a. Edward Lewis

Dee's long lost "Uncle Theodore" was finally found in Laredo Texas, far from his birthplace in Wisconsin, using another name. We were surprised to learn about his time in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during World War I.

Charlotte Redschlag

For many years, maybe decades, my great-great grandmother Hanna Charlotte Redschlag was one of my major brick walls. Research was difficult due to various spellings of her maiden name and unclear information on where she was born.

Marguerite Graf

Marguerite (Graf) Loose was a beloved teacher in her community for over 35 years. She began her teaching career right out of college, accepting a position as the teacher in a one-room rural schoolhouse. After her marriage and move to Michigan, she taught in the Mt. Morris school district and is still remembered fondly by many of her students. Former students would show up at her door years later with their own children to introduce them to the teacher that had had the biggest impact on their lives.

George Schultz

The Schwenkfelder Church is a small Christian denomination rooted in the 16th-century Protestant Reformation teachings of the Silesian reformer Caspar Schwenkfeld von Ossig (1489–1561). His followers faced over 150 years of religious persecution from both Catholic and Lutheran authorities in Silesia and Germany. Between 1731 and 1737, roughly 209 Schwenkfelder refugees emigrated to Pennsylvania. George Schultz arrived on the ship Snow Lowther with the first group of settlers. The "Society of the Descendants of the Schwenkenfelder Emigrants" lists him as Emigrant #E-1. George Schulz is a 5*great grandfather of Dorothy (Loose) Porterfield.

Samuel Patterson

Samuel Paterson (1738-1815) is both my 5*great grandfather and my 4*great grandfather. He was married 3 times. His first wife, Martha Ramsey (died before 1780), is my 5*great grandmother. His third wife, Juliann (or Julia Ann) Wallace (1773-1855), is my 4*great grandmother. The two lines converge again with the marriage of Jefferson Davis Porterfield and Mary Ardena Patterson in 1884. Jeff Davis and Mary Ardena were 2 * half cousins, once removed.
